Finmunity is a place to ask questions, share fish and shrimp photos, and follow the story of our aquariums. Help make it welcoming, whether someone has kept tanks for decades or is setting up their first one.

Be kind, especially to beginners

Discuss the idea, not the person. Explain a different approach without insults, ridicule or piling on.
No harassment, discrimination, threats, sexual content or abusive language. Keep your language respectful and avoid profanity.
Keep conversations about the hobby. Political arguments, religious debates and other divisive discussions belong elsewhere.

Make advice useful and responsible

Share what you have tried and explain why you recommend it. Be clear when something is an opinion or when you are unsure.
When asking for help, include details such as tank size, inhabitants, water readings and recent changes. Never shame someone for asking.
Put animal welfare first. Do not encourage cruelty, deliberate neglect, unsafe treatments or releasing aquarium animals or plants into the wild.
Use likes to show appreciation, and add replies that help the conversation. Avoid repeated posts and unrelated comments.
Write in your own voice. Do not paste unverified AI answers as though they were your experience or expertise; check any AI-assisted advice before sharing it.

Share fairly and protect privacy

Only upload photos and material you own or have permission to share. Credit other people's work and do not impersonate another person or organisation.
Do not publish someone else's private information, messages or photographs without permission.
Content labelled Public, including replies, can be read by anyone and found through search engines. Members-only content stays behind sign-in. Use a private journal for records you wish to keep to yourself.

Keep promotion out of conversations

No spam, referral campaigns, unsolicited promotional messages or repeated advertising for a business, social channel or product. Contact us before arranging commercial promotion.
Honest discussion of aquarium products and suppliers is welcome. Describe your own experience fairly, disclose any business connection or sponsorship, and avoid personal attacks or unsupported accusations.
Finmunity currently has no marketplace. Do not use posts or messages to arrange sales, trades or giveaways of livestock or aquarium supplies.

Report concerns and let us help

Use Report on a post, comment, private message or member profile to flag a concern confidentially. Reported private messages are shared with moderators for review. You can block a member, turn off direct messages or incoming friend requests in Settings, and check your safety reports there. Blocking prevents signed-in contact; public posts can still be read while signed out. Avoid public arguments about reports or attempts to shame another member.

Moderators consider the context, seriousness and any pattern of behaviour. They may remove content, give a warning, suspend an account or ban a member. Serious abuse can lead to immediate action. If you believe a decision is mistaken, contact support@finmunity.com so we can review it.
